4 coolest gadgets
Not everyone is already familiar with the principle of crowdfunding, and that is normal. It’s still a relatively new concept, but one that can help creative people make a difference. You first support a great idea for a product, and then you can follow the progress until the package arrives at your door. These are the four coolest gadgets on crowdfunding websites.
The biggest technological innovations don’t come from ‘big tech’ companies, but from smaller start-ups chasing their dreams. Thanks to crowdfunding sites, you will be the first to get your hands on the best new products.
1. SwitchBot Blind Tilt – solar powered smart blinds
For who is it?
For those who want to provoke jealousy in the neighbors
What is it?
The Switchbot uses the sun to open and close blinds. This works with the existing blinds that you already have at home. First of all, it uses solar energy to close and open the blinds, which works through a solar panel mounted between the window and the blinds. On the other hand, it can also use the changing sunlight to automatically regulate the amount of light that enters.
You can operate the Switchbot in different ways. Via the accompanying app, you can determine in detail the angle at which the blinds are opened. In addition, you can set timers and time schedules in the app and there is support for the Google Assistant and Alexa. The Switchbot also has an optional remote that you can mount on the wall and you can buy an NFC tag that lets you control your blinds using your phone. And the best thing about this product is undoubtedly its price.
- SwitchBot Blind Tilt – Kickstarter – 59 euros incl. shipping – expected in December 2022
2. Raynolse – smart skipping rope
For who is it?
For those who love ropeskipping
What is it?
The Raynolse is a skipping rope that can record your workouts in detail. It counts how many times you jump and can even register the hitting twice per jump. Raynolse also uses haptic feedback to give you an idea of your progress during a sports session. In the app you can view your activities afterwards and see the calories burned.
The Raynolse is also a good skipping rope due to the materials that makers use and the length of the rope, which you can easily adjust. The makers of the Raynolse emphasize that ropeskipping is a good idea for those who want to burn calories, because you burn more compared to most other sports. With its battery you can use the Raynolse for 25 days and that if you do a 30-minute session every day.
- Raynolse – Kickstarter – 79 euros incl. shipping – expected in February 2023
3. Pixel Mechanical Keyboard – Lego keyboard without Tensor
For who is it?
For those who like to personalize keyboards and love Lego
What is it?
Personalized keyboards are gaining popularity and the creators of this crowdfunding campaign came up with the idea of combining a mechanical keyboard with Lego. All the keys of the Pixel – indeed the name of the keyboard – are made on a plate on which you can also place Lego blocks. The keys themselves are also blocks, so as a Lego fan you can let your creativity run wild.
A nice extra is that you can even hide the wireless dongle behind a few blocks when you’re not using your keyboard. You can also set the operation of keys to your liking and there is also custom software with which you can create designs for your Lego keyboard. After all, it is possible to add lights to the Pixel and charging is possible via USB-C.
- Pixel Mechanical Keyboard – Kickstarter – 189 euros incl. shipping – expected in January 2023
4. Kimos – thermos that boils water in 3 minutes
For who is it?
For those who like to keep hot drinks warm for a long time
What is it?
The Kimos thermos can in fact replace your kettle. The device also works as a thermos and you can easily use it on the go thanks to its battery. It takes 3 minutes to boil water and you can use it five times per charge. The Kimos has a handy indicator that shows how much you can still use it with its battery.
It is useful for camping, because the Kimos is dust and waterproof. It keeps your drink warm like a normal thermos and the Kimos has a built-in safety that prevents you from accidentally using it when there is no liquid in it.
- Pixel Mechanical Keyboard – Kickstarter – 89 euros incl. shipping – expected in October 2023
Think of this with crowdfunding
Keep in mind that with crowdfunding you always support an idea in the first place, with no real guarantee that the actual product will meet your expectations. So choose the projects and start-ups that you really believe in and follow the regular updates on development and shipping that the start-ups communicate. Supporting projects through crowdfunding is therefore not the same as shopping.
