2012 Sony Xperia Go
Another new edition of ‘The Forgotten Smartphone’ section on DroidApp. A section where we look back at the gems and forgotten devices from a few years ago. This time the Sony Xperia Go from 2012.
Sony Xperia Go
In 2012, Sony launched a lot more devices than it does today. In that year, the robust Sony Xperia Go also appeared. It was a phone that could take a beating and was also waterproof. The phone stood out because of its compact housing and therefore also its robustness; with its robustness, it was the successor to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Active that we discussed earlier. Improvements that Sony has made with this model are the processor and the screen. The smartphone was released in the mid-range segment. Speaking of compact for a moment; the phone was only 111.0 x 60.3 millimeters (length, width). For comparison; the Galaxy S22, which is now seen as relatively compact, measures 146.0 x 70.6 millimeters.
The Sony Xperia Go was released with a 3.5 inch LCD screen with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. The device was powered by a dual-core processor from NovaThur with a computing power of 1.0 GHz. There was also 512MB of RAM and 8GB of memory available. You could expand this with a microSD memory card of up to 32GB. It was a shame that Sony didn’t release the Xperia Go along with Android Ice Cream Sandwich; it appeared with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and was updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
For taking pictures, the Xperia Go was equipped with a 5 megapixel camera, which also offered autofocus. A front camera could not be found on the device. Sony gave the phone WiFi, Bluetooth, an FM radio and of course the well-known 3.5 millimeter jack for the headset. We also saw a 1305 mAh battery, which you could charge via the micro-USB port.
The Sony Xperia Go was released in the Netherlands in 2012 for an amount of 299 euros.
