1st class is now less class
With a timetable change in June 2023, Deutsche Bahn also changed its prices. This is particularly noticeable when reserving seats in first class.
Deutsche Bahn recently published the Information about your current timetable change. In addition to changing the timetable itself, the company also adjusted its prices and services. Particularly affected: the seat reservation – and it will not only be more expensive in second class.
Deutsche Bahn increases prices: seat reservations are becoming more expensive
The prices for passengers in first class are also changing with immediate effect. Because the seat reservation is not included in the travel price as before, but has to be paid for separately depending on the type of ticket.
For example, anyone who booked long-distance tickets in first class at a super saver price or saver price previously got the seat free of charge. However, this has changed since the timetable change. Affected travelers now pay a surcharge of 5.90 euros if necessary.
Seat reservation: Increased prices also in 2nd class
The price for the seat reservation also changes in second class. Because travelers will have to pay 4.90 euros instead of 4.50 euros in the future. The cost of a family reservation has also changed as the cost increases to €9.80.
In addition, long-term reservations will no longer be possible in the future. Previously, subscription customers could buy a booklet of vouchers for 46 reservations for a specific route, which they could use within 31 days. This option is now gone.
media reports According to Deutsche Bahn, the reason for this change is that the offer has met with little interest in the past. Demand has fallen so sharply in recent years that only a low three-digit number of units have been sold per year.
