YouTube stops testing Picture-in-Picture (PiP) on iOS
YouTube has ended its test that allowed the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) function with videos. This allows you to have the video in a corner of the screen and do something else on your iPhone or iPad (like going to another application).
End of the test for the Picture-in-Picture test on YouTube iOS
This feature was offered as a test to members with YouTube Premium. However, they received a message from the Google-owned video service: “The feature you are trying to use has been disabled”. As a reminder, the test started in August 2021 and was still relevant a few days ago.
According to 9to5Google, users who took part in the test still have access to Picture-in-Picture with YouTube. But this does not concern everyone. In addition, those who did not participate in the test are completely left out. The same goes for the rest of the users.
A question arises: was the test conclusive? Depending on the answer, YouTube will offer the feature. But the service does not say anything for the moment, therefore difficult to know what will happen. Meanwhile, YouTube TV (a service for watching TV channels) recently adopted the feature on iOS.
YouTube has already said that the Picture-in-Picture mode will be offered for free to all users… in the United States. In other countries, you will have to pay YouTube Premium (€11.99/month). Why are Americans privileged over others? Good question.
