YouTube reveals its priorities for 2023: podcasts, revenue for creators and AI
Neal Mohan, the new boss of YouTube following the departure of Susan Wojcicki, lifted the veil on the video platform’s priorities for 2023. These include expanded support for podcasts, artificial intelligence and revenue for creators.
The YouTube boss says one of his priorities for the new year is to help more YouTube creators make money. He indicates :
Hundreds of thousands of channels made money on YouTube for the first time last year. And we’re providing more opportunities for creators outside of ads by growing our subscription business, investing in shopping, and continually improving our paid digital product offerings.
The leader also plans to expand certain features so that creators can reach more fans. This includes adding audio tracks to live content and YouTube Shorts. There are also plans to expand the gifting of subscriptions to mobile device users.
YouTube has also become a major podcast platform, and Neal Mohan says more features for creators are on the way. This includes adding audio and video podcasts for US subscribers to YouTube Music. RSS integration will also be available soon.
YouTube is also working to add the current trend of artificial intelligence tools for YouTubers. He didn’t have many details about it, but the executive said YouTube is “taking the time to develop these features with thoughtful safeguards.”
On the other hand, YouTube is going to offer a function allowing creators to create YouTube Shorts by reacting to another video. The content will be cut in half with the YouTuber’s reaction on one side and the video they are reacting to on the other.
Finally, Neal Mohan promises the addition of additional security features to the service, especially with YouTube Kids.
