Your AirPods are now always trackable (and here’s how)
Last night, Apple released firmware updates for the AirPods 2, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and several Beats headphones. Now the first innovations of the update are known. For example, the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max finally get the promised support for Apple’s Find My network.

AirPods Pro & AirPods Max Firmware: Find My Support
In June this year, at WWDC, Apple announced that the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max will receive support for the Find My network in the future. That network also uses the AirTags and you can use it to find your valuables anywhere in the world. However, it quickly became apparent that this new feature of the AirPods would not be available right away with the initial release of iOS 15, but only a little later.
That moment is now. Apple released the firmware 4A400 for the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max late at night. In combination with iOS 15, that firmware forms the basis for the support of Find My. So you can see where your lost AirPods Pro or AirPods Max are. This will help you get within Bluetooth range so you can play a sound that helps you find them.
New AirPods firmware brings new features
Incidentally, the AirPods appeared before in the Find My app, but had much fewer functions there than other devices. Now, for example, it is finally possible that you will be warned if you forget your AirPods somewhere. An example. If you are in a restaurant and leave the AirPods Pro there, you will receive a notification that you have forgotten the AirPods Pro when you leave the location. You can set this function via the Find My app.
Another new feature is that you can put the AirPods in a ‘lost’ mode after the update and leave contact details. If someone finds your missing AirPods, they can contact you. A pairing lock can also be activated, so that the AirPods cannot be used by the finder himself.
How to install the update
Unfortunately, there is no set procedure for triggering the firmware update for the AirPods. It helps if the AirPods Pro are in the charging case and the Max in the case, being charged and near the iPhone. Don’t worry if the update doesn’t install right away. This will happen automatically in the coming days.
To check the firmware version of your AirPods, connect them to your iPhone and open Settings>Bluetooth’. Click on the i next to your AirPods, scroll down and you will see the version number at the bottom.
