You want movies or music and it’s malware. Beware of growing attacks
ESET released its regular report on the most common security threats to Android a few days ago. The malicious software tools continue to be dominated by Cerberus banking malware, however, in the run-up to Christmas it has slightly changed the area of fake applications through which it spreads. It is said that the most frequent occurrence was in fraudulent instruments, which pretended to be well-known film or music players and intermediaries for watching TV.
Malware Cerberus
Cerberus malware is a risk primarily for banking services, as it can steal login details for internet banking and read verification SMS codes. While security analysts saw its activity decline in October, before the approaching end of the year and the Christmas holidays, its activity increased significantly again.
The exact names did not fall, but we can estimate that it could easily have been Spotify or Netflix, for example. So definitely be careful if you advertise tempted to download such popular applications outside the Play Store. Other droppers, ie infected “envelopes” in the form of fake applications, allegedly pretended to be tools promising to search for a lost mobile phone or to detect a fraudulent phone call.
