you can do this with children on Liberation Day

On May 5, we celebrate the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945, but also that we can live in freedom ever since. And that happens on the basis of various events throughout the country. You can do this with children on Liberation Day.

To lead

Traditionally, a children’s market is organized in the Westerkwartier playground in Leiden. At the same spot, a story can be heard about Rashid, who had to flee Iran with his family. More information can be found here.

Utrecht

In Park Transwijk in Utrecht you can find a lot of entertainment between 11.30 and 18.00. From circus to library bike and from moving museum to the Feel your Free Show, with children’s songs about freedom: there is plenty to do. More information can be found here.

Groesbeek

To learn more about war and freedom, you should visit the Resistance Museum in Groesbeek. On May 5 between 12:00 and 12:45 there is a special children’s tour for children from 8 to 12 years. Grandfathers and grandmothers also tell stories about the war. Please note: reservation is required. More information can be found here.

Enschede

For dance and music workshops, a whirligig, crafts and the Meneer Beer Show you can go to the Vettt Bengelfestijn in Enschede. Please note: children and their parents have free entrance, if you arrive before 12.30 pm. More information can be found here.

Oosterbeek

A nice trip on Liberation Day is the Airborne Museum, where there is plenty to see and experience for children. For example, they can go on a treasure hunt and learn everything about the Battle of Arnhem in an audio tour accompanied by soldier Tommy. More information can be found here.

Nijmegen

With the interactive game ‘Het Mysterie’ in culture house De Lindenberg you step as a child (from 9 years) into the middle of the Second World War. There is also plenty to do for the little ones. For example, with a Time Travel strip card you travel along various stops with activities, until you end up at the liberation party of 1945. More information can be found here.
