You can do this from the Netherlands to help Ukraine

Pregnant women and newborn babies in air-raid shelters, families on the run and Ukrainians who are left behind to fight back: the most intense images have been alternated for days. What can you do to help people in Ukraine? And if you donate money – no matter how small or large that amount is – what happens to it? Many Dutch people wonder that. Massive initiatives are being set up. We list a number of organizations.

Giro555

Eleven collaborating aid organizations, including the Refugee Foundation, the Red Cross, Unicef ​​and Save the Children, are joining forces with the national Giro555 campaign. Local partners in Ukraine ensure that refugees receive shelter, water and food. They also provide sanitation, medicines and psychosocial help. On Monday 7 March, national radio stations will take action for Giro555.

UNHCR

UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), the UN refugee agency, is also on site. Aid workers provide emergency shelter, emergency relief supplies and health care, among other things.

House of Animals

Not only people, but also animals suffer from the violence in Ukraine. That is why House of Animals supports Sirius animal shelters in Kiev, where three thousand animals are currently being cared for. By donating five euros, one dog or cat can eat for a week. Every euro goes to Sirius and where necessary to other animal shelters in Ukraine.

Red Cross

Red Cross aid workers are also present in Ukraine. For example, they provide first aid, deliver medical supplies to hospitals, evacuate people from dangerous areas and distribute food, drink and hygiene products to refugees. You can donate to Giro555, but also directly to the Red Cross.

Smaller initiatives

Undoubtedly, actions are also organized in your hometown to collect money or stuff for Ukraine. Usually, the total amount is donated to large aid organizations, such as the one above. Would you like to contribute to one of the initiatives in your area? Keep an eye on local media, because a lot of actions are shared there.
