“Yes daddy, when mommy is gone your girlfriend will come” and other embarrassing moments
You’ll do anything for that little rascal. Until that dragon decides to share your secrets with the whole schoolyard.
Luc (29), father of Anna-Sophie (11) and Layla-Rose (8):
“My wife had evening shift and in the afternoon girlfriend Sandra would come to visit us, not convenient for our daughter to plan a play date.
Once in class I wanted to repeat this with Anne-Sophie, who was five at the time. I asked, “Remember what we agreed on this afternoon?” Says Anne-Sophie, in the middle of a full kindergarten class: ‘Yes daddy, I know, your girlfriend will come when mommy is gone.’ I felt compelled to explain this remark to the other parents present.”
Highly esteemed teacher
Lian (45), mother of Juliëtte (13) and Arinka (11):
“Twenty years ago I started just as a teacher in the lower years. One of the toddlers in my class spontaneously exclaimed: ‘My dad thinks you’re hot!’ I felt honored.

Mum and the dads
Anouska (33), mother of Sofie (5) and Tijn (4):
“In a crowded schoolyard I called my daughter Sofie with the words: ‘Come on baby, we’re going home quickly because daddy is coming soon!’ Sofie shouted all over the square: ‘Which daddy?’ Um… she only has one. She lives with us as long as she lives. But because of her strange reaction, other mothers looked at me as if I brought a different father home every weekend.”
That you already know
Marisa (32), mother of Kasper (9):
“We really wanted to leave earlier to avoid the winter sports traffic jam. My husband and I discussed that we would just report Kasper sick for two days, so as not to have to arrange anything with leave notes. He promptly enters the classroom the next day: ‘Miss, I’ll be sick next Thursday and Friday, so I won’t be there.’”
