Xiaomi has banned users in China from retrofitting Google services

Xiaomi recently ran into problems after former US President Donald Trump blacklisted it. Recently, some users in China have started complaining that they can’t install Google services on their Xiaomi devices. Gizmochin’s portal informed about the problem.

The restriction seems to have come after installing MIUI 12.5. The Chinese manufacturer responded to these complaints, stating that the company would no longer allow users to install Google services after compliance. This step is not surprising, as Google services are banned in China and most smartphones in China do not.

Google services only on Xiaomi devices that have them pre-installed

The manufacturer has confirmed that users will not be able to install additional devices on devices that do not ship with Google services. However, the company did not list in its report the models that will be affected by this decision. Some users have announced that the Redmi K30 Ultra and Redmi 10X 5G will be one of those unfortunate devices.

However, these restrictions will only apply to equipment in the company’s domestic market, in China. Users in other countries will not be affected and will continue to be able to use their Xiaomi devices with Google services.

Is Xiaomi facing a similar fate as Huawei?

It is questionable whether the decision to ban users from additionally installing Google services is related to the recent blacklisting. Many people fear that Xiaomi faces a similar fate as Huawei. He was blacklisted by Doland Trump’s government, which, among other problems, caused him to lose the ability to ship his smartphones with Google services installed. However, Xiaomi has been included in a different type of blacklist, so it is unlikely that it has encountered similar problems as Huawei.
