Gridio is an app that indicates when it is best to use electricity, for example to switch on the washing machine or to charge your Tesla. The app is now also available in the Netherlands.

What is Gridio?

Gridio is a company mainly engaged in smart charging solutions. Gridio has launched an app for this, which automatically charges your electric car when electricity is cheapest and cleanest. This allows electric vehicles, for example Tesla, Volkswagen, Skoda and other brands, to be automatically charged with the cheapest and cleanest electricity, at home or at the office. And this without additional hardware. According to Gridio, owners of electric vehicles with Gridio save on average about 30% in costs on energy bills in combination with a dynamic energy contract.

App is also used for energy consumption at home

Gridio saw that people who do not own an electric car or do not yet have a dynamic energy contract, also use the app to adjust their energy consumption at home. When families come home from work and school and want to turn on the washing machine or dishwasher, for example, they open the app to check whether there are peak hours at that time. The best times to use energy are usually late in the evening and during the night, not around dinner time when most people are home and actively using electricity, Gridio said.

Gridio has nicknamed this so-called peak-hours solution ‘Ursula Mode’ – named after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Von der Leyen is on the frontline of the EU’s fight against the current energy crisis and aims to achieve a 5% peak energy tax reduction for next winter. Smoothing out the peak load contributes to a reduced consumption of electricity and gas, which in turn can make a positive contribution to the overall purchase price for electricity and gas.

Getting started with the Ursula Mode

Would you like to try the Ursula Mode in the Gridio app? The Gridio app is free to download for iOS and Android. After choosing your country, you can then see the expected peak hours of electricity use, based on a price analysis by Gridio. You can then decide for yourself when to turn on the dishwasher or to run a wash.

The Ursula Mode will also automatically assess the most favorable moment to charge the car in combination with the agreed time when the car has reached the desired charge level again.
