Will Samsung Galaxy S23 say goodbye to its own Exynos processor?

It is rumored that Samsung Galaxy S23 will only get a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor worldwide. That would mean that Samsung’s own Exynos processor is not used. A striking choice, because normally we are used to the Exynos version in Europe with regard to the S series.

Qualcomm

It’s still a rumor, but one that comes from a known and usually reliable source. Expert Ming-Chi Kuo indicates that Qualcomm makes the processor for this device, but not Samsung itself. That would be because the Snapdragon chip is very good and the Exynos cannot compete with this.

At the same time, it does not necessarily mean that Samsung is saying goodbye to its own chip. It will probably only apply to this device. Journalist Roland Quandt said there was still talk of a developing Exynos 2300 chip at the end of May. There are also quite a few devices from the Korean maker that are equipped with their own processor: about 30 percent of the Galaxy S22 devices have an Exynos 2200.

Exynos processor

However, we still have a chip shortage worldwide and Samsung feels that too. For example, the Exynos version of Galaxy S22 was launched in fewer countries than before. It was mainly a European party: Asia and North America only got the Snapdragon version.

Exynos has been on the market for over a decade. In 2010, it was placed in the Samsung Galaxy S under the name Hummingbird. It was the company’s first Exynos chip. We are now used to it, but we cannot assume that we will get that processor when the Samsung Galaxy S23 is launched in Europe. Apparently Qualcomm has had a big advantage over Samsung’s own chip in terms of price-quality. If the rumor is correct, because Samsung itself has not yet made any statements about this.
