“Hair” has always been a thing in her family, says Colleen. “We always had to figure out how to get the tangles out, cut bangs, or make an Elsa braid.”

Over the years she has come to realize that it has become a way for her children to express themselves. ‘By wearing their hair in a certain style, they show the world who they are. My husband and I therefore think it is very important to let them do their thing. They shouldn’t have a haircut that we like, but one that they want for themselves. ‘
Own individual
The result is that they sometimes come from the hairdresser with a surprising haircut. My middle one had all of her curls cut back into a short haircut. The eldest suddenly had a long bob. And I have to say it did something to me, ā€¯Colleen admits. ‘They always look so much older after every haircut. It’s very strange that a visit to the hairdresser can make them so grown up. ‘
As a result, Colleen also realizes that her children are becoming increasingly independent. ‘It’s not just a haircut, it’s everything – they grow up, become more and more their own individual. They depend less and less on me. That is nice, but it also hurts sometimes. ‘
