Three completely new models have been released, the Apple Watch Series 8, the second generation of the Apple Watch SE and the Apple Watch Ultra. Each model is intended for a specific target group and they all have a different price tag. In addition, there are of course some old models that you can still buy. But don’t worry, we’ll help you choose. Have fun with your Apple Watch.

The best choice: Apple Watch Series 8

The Apple Watch Series 8 is currently the standard model of the Apple Watch. It is available in two sizes, with a 41 and 45 mm case. A bit larger than the Series 6, and the same size as the Series 7. In terms of other specifications, it is also reminiscent of the Apple Watch Series 7. It is water resistant to 50 meters, has fall detection and an always-on screen.

Where the Series 8 still distinguishes itself is the accident detection. Do you end up in a car accident? Then the Apple Watch Series 8 asks if you want to call the emergency services. If you don’t respond, he will do it for you automatically. Of course, the smartwatch also has health functions such as a heart rate monitor, pedometer and workouts. New is an extra accurate thermometer to keep track of the female cycle. The Watch gives you a prediction afterwards when you ovulated.

Not a big difference in price between Apple Watch Series 8 or Series 7

So there is not much difference between the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Apple Watch Series 7. You can already get a new Apple Watch Series 7 (45mm) for 409 euros, the 41mm version is two tenths more expensive: 428 euros. The Apple Watch Series 8 (41mm) costs 452 euros and you pay 469 euros for the 45mm version. So it saves about 40-50 euros between the Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch Series 8. Apple Watch Series 6: Stop buying

The Apple Watch Series 6 is also not very different from the aforementioned Watches, but we do not recommend it anymore. It costs only a fraction less than Series 7, and for an extra tenner we would really go for the newer model.

Best ratio price and quality: Apple Watch SE

The current Apple Watch SE appeared in 2022. The SE is an interesting option for anyone who wants a recent Apple Watch with an affordable price. The current Apple Watch SE has the appearance and screen size of the Apple Watch Series 6, but does not have all the functions such as an always-on screen or a pulse oximeter.

Plenty of other features

Although these two functions pass the nose of the Apple Watch SE, the watch fortunately has a lot of other health functions. For example, the smartwatch can register your heart rate. You can also wear the watch while exercising, because it has a built-in pedometer and accelerometer, among other things. Of course you can also keep track of many different workouts. In addition, this watch is water resistant to a depth of 50 meters.

Equally fast chip, equally long support

The Apple Watch has the same chip as the one in the Apple Watch Series 8. The S8 chip of the SE watch is therefore very fast and pleasant to use. Moreover, you are assured of long software support.

That support period will be just as long as the latest Apple Watch Series 8. We expect that you can use the latest updates for at least 4 to 5 years.

An even bigger watch: the Apple Watch Ultra

Do you think that the Apple Watch SE has too few functions? The Apple Watch Series 8 is too common? You are super sporty, do scuba diving, run on the most extreme trails or climb in the mountains? Or do you just want the Apple Watch with the largest screen and the longest battery life? If you answered ‘Yes’ to one or more of the above questions, then you are the target group for the new Apple Watch Ultra!

The Ultra is made of titanium, an extremely strong material, and is therefore suitable for the most extreme conditions, such as scuba diving and mountain climbing. When the watch is underwater, a special mode automatically starts that measures the temperature and depth of the water, among other things.

The watch also has a custom design with a digital crown and side button merged into a module on the side. The side button can be programmed to your liking, making it possible to launch a specific workout or app by pressing the button.

The case of the watch also measures 49mm, making the screen larger than any other Watch. The battery is also larger, so you can use the Apple Watch for up to 72 hours without recharging.

The Apple Watch Ultra is packed with practical features that are very useful for sporty and adventurous individuals. For example, the Wayfinder watch face can be adapted to your extreme sport, such as skiing or sailing. In addition, this dial contains a special dark mode, making the screen easier to read in low light.

Apple has also developed special wristbands for various sports. For example, there is a wristband for water sports and a specific strap for use in mountains.

Apple Watch Ultra is expensive

The Apple Watch Ultra is the most expensive model of the Apple Watch that Apple has ever released. You must have about a thousand euros for it. For that money you also get the best Apple Watch there is. Only if you have very small wrists would we not recommend the Apple Watch Ultra.

Or wait a little longer: Apple Watch Series 9 in 2023

According to the rumor mill, the Apple Watch Series 9 will be released again this year, but there will also be an update for the Apple Watch Ultra. Apple may even provide the SE with a small update.

Do you have to wait a while before buying an Apple Watch in 2022? Maybe, but what Apple has planned for the Watch Series 9 remains a guess. Apparently, battery life is Apple’s big new project to improve in the next Watch release.

When the Apple Watch Series 9 finally appears, you often have the advantage that the older models become slightly cheaper again. But exactly how long you have to wait is not yet known.
