When is the release of Apple Music Classical?
It’s been 15 months since Apple bought streaming service Primephonic. We from iPhoned can’t wait anymore. Where is the release of Apple Music Classical?
Read on after the ad.
Apple bought Primephonic
It’s been over a year since Apple bought the three-year-old classical music streaming service Primephonic. It was then said that Apple would launch its own classical music service in 2022. However, this year is now only a month away, so time is running out.
When Apple announced the purchase of Primephonic, the company emphasized that a new app would be coming with special search functions for classical music. So, we wonder; where is the release of Apple Music Classical?
Why isn’t Apple Classical Music here yet?
There is actually a simple answer to this question. Where you can easily divide pop music into tempo, key and artist, it is a lot more difficult with classical music. These pieces have completely different metadata on which they can be classified. For example, it is possible that one classical piece has been played by an enormous number of performers. There are also performances that differ in tempo and key.
In addition, Primephonic had a different method of paying the artists than Apple Music. With the current music services, this is based on the number plays, while with classic pieces this is a lot different. There are often entire symphonies behind one recording. With pop artists, the payment per stream is already scanty, you have to find out how that works if you have to maintain an entire orchestra. In addition, classical music pieces are a lot longer. That’s why Primephonic argued for one payment-per-second.
What do we expect from this classical music service?
So we already know a lot about this special search engine within Apple Music. In addition, the app will give you information about the piece you are listening to. Think of the year and location of the performance. You can easily imagine yourself in the Vienna of 1871.
Another aspect that should distinguish Apple Music Classical after its release is its curatorship. Music experts from Apple give you recommendations on different types of compositions. For example, the app not only tries to sell this music style to the elderly, but it may also make the younger generation fans of classical music.
