WhatsApp will require biometric authentication when authorizing a new device
The US giant Facebook recently announced that if users of the WhatsApp chat application want to continue using the platform, they will have to agree to the new terms. These include new things about privacy. Some data will be shared with Facebook itself. Some people may not like this and that is why many are looking for various alternative solutions for instant messaging with family and friends. However, the new implementation will help improve the sense of security.
Our tip
Chat applications collect a lot of data. Which most and which least?
Login to the WhatsApp web or desktop application will need to be biometrically verified
After a long time, we also have more positive news on the topic of the WhatsApp application. Biometric authentication comes to the web and computer versions of the platform. It is actually a form of two-factor verification. Face or fingerprint scanning will take place on your smartphone. All in order to be able to link your account with a web or desktop version of the app.
Once it is determined that it really is you, a QR code will then appear on the computer screen. By scanning this code with the mentioned mobile device, you will verify that it is really about you and your mobile. You will then be logged in to your WhatsApp account. Web PhoneArena claims that adding a function is good especially for cases where you live in the same household with several roommates, or at work or on public computers you get used to logging into your WhatsApp account. This will minimize the chance of someone signing up for you. Strangely, however, it remains that such verification will not be possible in any way.
Biometric data is said to go nowhere else
WhatsApp will simply request some of the biometric data whenever you want to connect from a new device, whether through the web or a downloaded application. Facebook also commented on the collection of personal data from this verification. Your face or fingerprint will probably not go anywhere else. It will only be up to you and WhatsApp. When will we see the implementation of this feature? Well, the company claims that this should happen within a few weeks. So we are curious what it will be like in practice after all.
Our tip
WhatsApp has extended the deadline for agreeing to the new terms. Is it responding to Signal?
