WhatsApp stops supporting older versions; works on fewer smartphones
If you have an older iPhone or a more dated Android device, WhatsApp may no longer work. The messaging service has stopped support for older versions.
WhatsApp may no longer work
As previously announced by WhatsApp, WhatsApp may no longer work on an older device. As of today, November 1, 2021, the messaging service will stop supporting older Android and iOS versions. This means that you can no longer send or receive messages with this version.
Android devices now need to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher to use WhatsApp. At Apple, this is iOS 10 and higher. This means that you need at least an iPhone 5 for the chat service. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S are no longer supported.
It is recommended to switch to a new smartphone with a more recent Android version. We recommend this anyway, also in the context of (online) security.
