WhatsApp offers support for multiple devices in beta
WhatsApp now offers its support system for multiple devices, both on iOS and Android. This feature is currently available in beta.
WhatsApp’s multi-device arrives in beta
To activate support for multiple devices, open WhatsApp, go to the Settings tab and select Connected devices. A Cross-Device Beta option appears, select it and then tap the “Join Beta” button. WhatsApp specifies that it is possible to leave the beta at any time.
Multiple device support allows users to access WhatsApp on other linked devices without their primary smartphone necessarily being connected to the internet. Users can link up to four devices in addition to the primary phone. This means that you still cannot use the same WhatsApp account on more than one phone, but you will be able to use the same WhatsApp account on the web, desktop app and Facebook Portal at the same time.
It should be noted that you cannot message or call from the web, desktop app, or Portal to users who have an older version of WhatsApp on their phone. Personal calls and messages remain end-to-end encrypted on all devices. Also, if you don’t use your phone for more than 14 days, your linked devices will be disconnected. Since this feature is still in beta, WhatsApp warns that the performance and quality of its service may be affected.
What about the iPad? An application is under development. But there is no more information at the moment.
