WhatsApp launches Windows app that doesn’t require your phone to be online

Chatting via WhatsApp is now only possible on the computer if your phone is connected to the internet. A new app for your Windows computer makes it possible to WhatsApp without your phone having to be connected to the internet.

WhatsApp has made a new application available for computers with Windows. It is a so-called native app that you can use on a Windows device. The current WhatsApp Desktop application is a web app and the new version should be faster and better, the messaging service reports.

The main feature of the app is multi-device support. This means that it can work as a stand-alone. With the new Windows app, it is not necessary that your phone is connected to the network at the same time, that it must remain online. This was necessary for sending and receiving messages. Other messaging apps such as Telegram have been able to use the app without a phone connection for much longer.

The new WhatsApp app for Windows can be downloaded for free from the Microsoft Store. You can connect the PC in the usual way via the Settings in the Android app. According to WhatsApp, the existing web version will remain available, as will WhatsApp Web, and a macOS version is also on the way.
