WhatsApp finally introduces a one-time display of photos and videos
At the same time, the most popular (or perhaps better used) mobile communicator in the world officially introduces a function for one-time display of photos and videos. In the original, named View Once, when content is opened in a chat, it ensures its disappearance, thus providing more advanced control over privacy. One-time media is protected by end-to-end encryption, so even WhatsApp can’t view it. They are also clear marked with a single view icon. After viewing such media, the message is marked as “open” to avoid confusion in the chats.
Rules for one-time display of photos and videos in the WhatsApp application
- Media will not be saved in Photos or Gallery in the recipient’s phone.
- Once you submit single-view media, you will not be able to view it again.
- Photos or videos sent or received in this way it is not possible to forward, save, star or share.
- Confirmation that the recipient has opened the photo or video with a single view only appears if the recipient has read notifications turned on.
- If you do not open the photo or video within 14 days of uploading, the chat interval will expire.
- If you want to send a photo or video so that it can only be viewed once, you must always select the one-time view option when sending.
One-time display media can only be restored from a backup if the message was not opened before the backup. If the user opened the photo or video, the media the file will not be part of the backup and it will not be possible to restore it. Exceptions will be cases where the recipient reports the content as defective and will need to be investigated.
Big hook the whole function then lies in that WhatsApp will not block the screenshot on the recipient’s side. That must be taken into account. The feature was posted globally to the app on August 3, so you should already have it these days. If you don’t, check back for an update.
