WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram get paid features
Meta is working on paid features for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. That is according to an internal memo that employees of the company received last week.
Paid Features
For this, a new division within Meta will be established and it will be called New Monetization Experiences, will build paid functions in the social apps of Meta. The Verge reports this on the basis of an internal memo that they have received. Together, the three apps have billions of users, so this is an interesting revenue model for Meta. Now the tech giant has to rely mainly on advertising revenue, but that is declining.
Meta will continue to focus on ad revenue growth and has no plans to charge people for having ads turned off in apps. “I think we see opportunities to build new kinds of features that people would be willing to pay and be happy to pay for,” Meta’s John Hegeman said in an interview. He declined to comment on what paid positions are currently being considered.
Meta believes that the paid features can make a significant difference to the company over a five-year period. Facebook group admins can currently charge for access to exclusive content. Digital “stars” can also be purchased to support content creators. Telegram recently added a paid subscription, as well as Twitter and Snapchat.
Would you pay for WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook, or would you rather keep using the apps for free? Let us know in the comments.
