What you need to know about the digital euro now
The fact that the European Central Bank has been working on the digital euro for years is mainly due to the fact that cash is becoming less and less important. Cashless purchases, on the other hand, are mainly processed by US service providers. The e-euro could also help against this β even if it is still unclear how exactly it is supposed to work.
It would be possible for banks to obtain the digital euro from the European Central Bank, just as banks now also receive euro notes. Alternatively, the European Central Bank could also manage the digital currency on its own accounts.
