What is worth waiting for

What is your longest ongoing project, i.e. what have you been working on for months or years without really finishing it? This can be the scarf that you really wanted to knit, the cross trainer that you actually wanted to use three times a week and which now makes a chic clothes stand, or the website that you always wanted to build really state of the art.

The reasons why they fail are usually just as varied as the projects: children are born, work is particularly stressful at the moment, while the sofa looks particularly comfortable – there are many excuses.

And yet it can be worthwhile to close such unsolved cases. The satisfaction of having a warm neck despite everything, getting fitter or being able to boast of a really great website makes up for a lot. The example of Youtuber Brixius also shows that it is almost never too late.

That and more are the topics of our new weekly.

1. This man wants to finish his nearly 40 year old C64 game

“It’s one of those loose threads in my life that I deeply regret,” Brixius says in his video. He has been working on a computer game for 40 years – for the C64. Now he’s hoping his Patreon supporters and the Youtube community can give him the “moral support and responsibility” he needs to finish his game after all these years.

To complete the project, Brixius has developed a detailed plan. He wants to focus on source control first and then complete his map code. In addition, he intends to fix the color scheme in the dungeons. To set his priorities, he asks his community for support and takes their suggestions for his planned quarterly sprints.

The game should finally be finished in 2024.

2. These are the 10 most in-demand IT jobs

The shortage of skilled workers is particularly noticeable in the tech industry. Qualified specialists are particularly in demand in areas such as software and application development, process automation and cloud architecture and operation.

It is therefore hardly surprising that companies are primarily looking for network security engineers, system security managers, network and system administrators and people for the helpdesk. But Devops experts, cloud engineers and frontend and database developers also have a good chance of finding a well-paid job quickly.

3. The Mac Studio with M2 Ultra in the test

With the announcement of the Mac Pro and the new Mac Studio generation, each of which is offered with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips, Apple has included a compact computer between the Mac Mini with M2 and Mac Pro in its portfolio.

The Mac Studio comes with enormous performance, which has been taken to a new level thanks to the M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips. Despite the enormous performance, the Mac is comparatively economical in terms of energy consumption, and despite the active fan it is extremely quiet – even under high load.

For most users, however, the Mac Studio is completely oversized in terms of performance, so they can confidently reach for the Mac Mini, which is also far cheaper. The new model is also not a mandatory purchase for owners of a Mac Studio with M1.

4. Crypto investors must expect mail from the tax office

Tax evaders with cryptocurrencies should be careful: The North Rhine-Westphalian tax investigation agency – the largest in Germany – received a lot of data from a large crypto exchange in the course of a request for information. Transactions from thousands of customers should be included there. The investigators estimate that the amount of damage hidden in it is in the tens of millions.

The investigators are said to have shared the data with other federal states. Self-reporting by multiple offenders and amounts of more than 50,000 euros can prevent imprisonment – in this case, however, penalty surcharges are due in addition to the tax burden. Certainly still better than a several-year prison sentence.

5. What to consider when ordering in China shops

They are called Banggood, Shein, Wish or Aliexpress – and offer a huge selection of goods of all kinds: from technical accessories and toys of all kinds to household products and toys to clothing and sporting goods. Overall, the China portals now also play an important role for German customers.

But the websites are often as confusing as the offer – and they leave many questions unanswered, especially if you are not used to ordering from Wish and Co.

For example, European standards and regulations such as the CE mark are not always met and delivery can also take several months. Complaints or returns are often not worthwhile if the costs are borne by the buyer. They should also be prepared for additional costs due to customs and taxes.
