Wear OS has improved. Thanks to Samsung, it has become the second largest system for smart watches
Wear OS became the second largest smart watch operating system in the third quarter of 2021. Whereas in the second quarter it had only a 4% market share, now this figure has climbed to an incredible 17%. The novelty was brought by the Sammobile portal.
The system can thank Samsung for its success, which has decided to replace its own Tizen operating system with the new Wear OS 3. It drives the popular Samsung Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic.
Apple’s Watch OS still remains the most used system with a 22% share. However, compared to previous quarters, its popularity is declining very rapidly. In the fourth quarter of 2020, it still had a 40% market share, but in the first quarter of 2021 it was only 33%. The second place so far belonged to Huawei, which has now fallen to fifth place just behind the manufacturer Garmin.
Samsung watch sales have grown
The number of smart watches sold has also changed this quarter. While Samsung increased its unit sales year-on-year from 9.9% to 14.4% of all watches sold, Apple and its share fell 10% year-on-year. The third and fourth place were taken by the manufacturers imoo and Amazfit with a 5.8% share, and in fifth place we will find Huawei and its 5% share.
However, the year 2021 is not over yet and the last, fourth quarter is ahead of us. Counterpoint Research noted that statistics may differ from the current ones, as sales of the new Apple Watch 7 did not count until the third quarter. It is also difficult to predict how pre-Christmas shopping will turn the market.
