We have to say goodbye to video calling app Google Duo
Google Duo is a very handy, useful video calling app that is loved by Android users. Private conversations in particular were often done via Google Duo during the corona time. However, it becomes clear that we will have to say goodbye to Google Duo.
Google is going to rank Duo
Google is finally putting an end to the existence of video calling app Google Duo. At the beginning of June, it was already announced that Google Duo and Google Meet will be merged. The first signs that this is going to happen have now surfaced in the latest version of Google Duo. In the latest version, some users get a message that the app is getting better and will be replaced by Google Meet. It talks in the notification here about a new name and icon, along with more features like the background effects. It was previously announced that Google Hangouts will stop.
When you press the New button at the bottom right, you can’t just start a new call (which was the button’s function until now). You can also schedule a call with Google Calendar for a later date. In addition, if a meeting is scheduled in the desktop version of Google Meet, it can also be shown in the app. There are also updated privacy terms, such as on the use of cloud encryption. By the way, the transition to Meet will not transfer blocked users to Google Meet.
Not every user immediately sees the changes for Google Duo. It is not yet clear when we have to say goodbye to Google Duo. At the beginning of June, Google spoke of “a few weeks” in which the features will be available in Meet.
