Wallet: under iOS 15, a selfie will save the identity card
Wallet is entitled to big changes under iOS 15. It will thus be possible to save in his digital wallet his identity card, his driver’s license or his social insurance card (in the US) and above all, duplicates or expired cards will no longer be displayed (which will be good. practical for restaurant tickets, which can also be recorded in the app).
At the launch of iOS 15, Apple will organize a small-scale test of some of these functions: citizens of several “partner” US states will be able to register their identity cards in Wallet. The fourth beta of iOS 15 even provides some information on the cardholder authentication method. A priori, it will therefore suffice to take a few photos of his face via Face ID (and from several angles) to “authorize” the registration of the identity card. An algorithm will then “match” the selfie shots with the photo on the card. Without matching faces, the identity card cannot be integrated into Wallet.
The presentation of the identity card via Wallet will also require the authentication of the card holder, via Face ID or Touch ID. Initially, only a few American airports will validate Wallet’s digital identity cards when boarding passengers.
