No time right now?

Volkswagen is continuing to work on its range of electric cars. With the ID 5, an e-coupé is now being produced by the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer.

The all-electric station wagon ID 3 and the E-SUV ID 4 will soon be followed by the Coupe-SUV ID 5 – fully electric, of course. According to VW brand boss Ralf Brandstätter, the offshoot of the ID 4 is not being built in the Wolfsburg parent plant, but at the Zwickau site. It should be launched on the market in the second half of 2021. In order to be able to guarantee this, the pre-series production is already running in the fourth largest city in Saxony.

Volkswagen is still keeping details under lock and key

How exactly the ID 5 will be constructed and what will ultimately distinguish it from ID 4 is not yet fully known. Volkswagen is still keeping a low profile. The price range in which the vehicle will be located is just as unknown as extensions to include the GTX models with all-wheel drive or a possible entry-level version with a smaller battery. In comparison, the cheapest version of the ID 4 costs less than 30,000 euros after deducting the subsidy. The only thing that is clear is that the ID 5 will initially not be offered worldwide.

The ID 5 will be based on the modular electric drive kit of the ID 4, which suggests at least some technical aspects. The news portal specializing in electromobility Electrive concludes that in addition to the 150 kilowatt electric motor, the ID 5 will also take over the 77 kilowatt hour battery of the ID 4. In terms of length, the ID 5 will also be based on the ID 4 and end up at a little over four and a half meters, but due to its more aerodynamic design it will probably be a bit longer than the compact SUV. Based on this aerodynamics, it can be assumed that the range of the ID 5 will be over the 522 kilometers of the ID 4.
