VW is in first place for e-cars
Tesla is considered by many to be the ultimate e-car manufacturer. But especially when it comes to electromobility and autonomous driving, others are now setting the tone. Volkswagen stands out in a current ranking with innovations for the future.
VW at the top: CAM selects the most innovative automakers
When it comes to electric cars, the name Tesla is often mentioned first. No wonder, years ago Elon Musk gave the electric mobility brand a decisive boost. Today, however, there is not so much left of the spirit of innovation, at least if you follow the annual evaluation of the Center of Automotive Management (CAM). There is VW again at the top landed (source: Manager magazine).
With 67 innovations, included 24 world novelties, the company from Wolfsburg climbs to the very top. The CAM assigns an index value of 149 for this. Daimler follows in second place with a value of 133. Tesla achieves position 3 with an index value of 93. VW achieved top values in the comparison, especially in the areas of electromobility and user interface, with Daimler (Mercedes) dominating in autonomous driving – both are clear signs of Tesla, whose cars are often praised for this.
The Americans are convincing with their range and charging power, compared to last year Tesla made up three places. Nevertheless, it does not come close to the German manufacturers. “The German automobile manufacturers are doing very well from an innovation point of view “, says CAM manager Stefan Bratzel. BMW just missed the podium in fourth place, while SAIC, the first Chinese automaker, landed in fifth. Geely and Great Wall, also from China, also make the top 10.

China manufacturers are the greatest competition for German e-cars
Although Tesla is by no means out of the running, the decisive competition for the well-placed German manufacturers currently comes from China. For Bratzel, the manufacturers there have the capacities to get involved in the development of new technologies. In addition, they are in the crucial fields E-mobility, networking and autonomous driving well positioned.
In this regard, Tesla’s technology and state of the art are still considered to be pioneering, but the assistance systems such as the so-called autopilot repeatedly turn out to be immature. A total of 30 international manufacturers with 80 brands were included in the innovation ranking.
