VUB Bank clients, beware! Fraudulent e-mails are once again being spread on behalf of the bank
The Police of the Slovak Republic warns fans of the Facebook page Hoaxy and Scams – Police of the Slovak Republic about a new wave of fake e-mails, which are being spread on behalf of VUB Bank.
Fraudsters are again abusing the reputation of VUB Bank
This is an old known scam by which attackers try to obtain payment card details or internet banking login details from the bank’s clients. The user receives an e-mail that tries to look like an official message from the bank, but is not very successful.
Its graphic processing looks unprofessional and we already know when looking at the sender’s address that the message was not sent by the bank. A fake email would not work without a link to another page. In this case, with a redirect to a website imitating real internet banking.
Detecting fake emails and text messages doesn’t have to be complicated
Sending fake e-mails and SMS messages is currently a trend among fraudsters. In addition to the goodwill of various banks, Slovak Post and courier companies are also abusing it. However, despite the variety of false reports, attackers can be easily detected. For emails, you need to check the sender’s address first. If it contains foreign language words and suffixes, or random letters and numbers, delete it and do not click on the attached links.
The authenticity of the message will also help us determine the form of the attached link. Again, companies rarely refer their clients to sites that have a number of randomly generated letters and numbers, foreign language words, or a suffix other than “.sk” at the beginning of the URL.
If you are not sure whether the e-mail or SMS message is fake, check it directly at the bank’s branch or through its official website.
