Vorwerk sends a warning to Thermomix owners
The Thermomix is a box office hit, and business with the food processor is booming. A security risk is now making negative headlines. According to Vorwerk, the measuring cup is to blame. In individual cases there is even a risk of scalding and burns.
With the Thermomix, Vorwerk has completed a remarkable image change. Formerly known as a reliable but conservative vacuum cleaner manufacturer, the traditional Wuppertal company is now considered a trend-setting innovation driver in household and kitchen technology. The Thermomix is significantly involved in the success. All the more annoying for Vorwerk when the cult blockbuster of all things now has to be provided with a safety notice.
TM6 measuring cup can cause burns with the Thermomix
Because “in extremely rare cases”, according to Vorwerk, it could happen when using the Thermomix burns and scalds may occur. The reason for this is the measuring cup of the TM6 model.
According to Vorwerk, with cooking and cooking processes from 95 degrees, it can happen that this Distribute the food so unfavorably in the pot that steam is prevented from escaping at the edges of the measuring cup. As a result, increased pressure can build up in the mixing bowl, which in individual cases can lead to “uncontrolled escape of hot food”, warns Vorwerk. This in turn could lead to burns. The effect does not occur with the TM5 measuring cup.
The manufacturer recommends affected Thermomix owners for cooking predecessors over 95 degrees to use the simmering basket instead of the fixed TM6 measuring cup, because it is loose and the steam can escape. In addition, the capacity of the mixing bowl should never be exceeded and soups, stews and jams should always be prepared at a maximum of 100 degrees.
