users consume an average of 1.5 GB of data per day
Mobile data usage has increased dramatically over the past 20 years. So, while the whole world only needed 100 GB of data per day in 1992, this figure rose from 1.5 GB per person per day, for the 7 billion human beings on the planet. A boon for operators who continue to deploy their 5G network.
On November 2, Liang Hua, CEO of Huawei, participated in the China Mobile Global Partner Conference. His talk focused on 5G and its development over the past year. The businessman thus dwelled on the history of mobile data, and its growing popularity among the population. And the finding is clear. 20 years ago the whole world barely consumed 100 GB of data per day. Today, a single user consumes on average 1.5 GB of data per day alone. A figure to be multiplied by the billions of smartphone owners.
This exponential increase can be explained by various factors. First, it’s no secret, the smartphone market has literally exploded over the past ten years. While they were still relatively in the minority during the 2000s, it is rare today to come across those resistant to this technology. In addition, our mobile phones are no longer the only ones to use mobile networks. Our tablets and all connected objects also consume data. A car, for example, can use up to 64 TB of data in a single day.

Operators are rubbing their hands in the face of the explosion in data consumption
Finally, at the same time as smartphones have become more democratic in our society, the mobile network has also developed. After 3G, 4G has definitely entrenched data as an efficient and secure way to access the Internet. A trend that has been confirmed with 5G, which has allowed a new exponential increase in the consumption of mobile data around the world.
Enough for operators, who continue to deploy their network across the globe. In France, it is already expected to exceed 2 million users by next year. The others, still remaining on the 4 G will sooner or later have to comply with the transition, at the rate at which compatible smartphones are currently being released. Clear, mobile data consumption continues to increase.
