Along with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung introduced a helpful taskbar. There are now increasing indications that the function will also be made available to other folding smartphones from the manufacturer. Older Fold phones also get a kind of tablet mode.

Samsung: Taskbar also for older Fold phones

one of the Software Highlights of the recently introduced Galaxy Z Fold 4 from Samsung is the new taskbar. This is where you can find recently opened apps, along with other smaller features that make navigation easier. The feature, also described as a multitasking dock, shouldn’t only be available for the manufacturer’s new folding cell phone for much longer, as it turns out.

A leaker claims that the Taskbar will come bundled with Samsung’s One UI 4.1.1 also appear for older Fold smartphones becomes. An exact time has not yet been given, distribution should start “later in the year” (source: @TheGalox_ on Twitter). The taskbar should therefore also be found on the Galaxy Fold 2 and Fold 3 in the coming months. A release for the first Galaxy Fold, however, is unlikely. Even flip phones should not get the function.

With the taskbar can increase productivity, as switching between apps is easier than before. It can be seen at the bottom of the display even when the camera app is open. Together with the S Pen input stylus, the folded mobile phone becomes even more of a tablet.

Samsung: Android 12 L for older folding phones?

It is currently still unclear whether Samsung really has older Fold phones just the new taskbar available or whether they will also receive Android 12L right away. Samsung has not yet commented on this. Android 12L is a variant of the mobile operating system that was specially produced for foldable phones, tablets and Chrome OS devices.
