Useful feature: Google makes Android smartwatches better
Android smartwatches have only gotten better, but Wear OS still lacks a decent backup function. But it should soon be easier to switch from one smartwatch to another without losing data and settings.
Wear OS: Details on Google’s backup function
For smartwatches with Wear OS, Google offers as a manufacturer still no simple backup solution on. If you buy a new device, you have to do it manually in order not to lose the data. It has been known since August 2022 at the latest that Google is working on a comprehensive backup function that saves data in the cloud. New details about the plans have now come to light.
Notices have surfaced in version 22.42.12 of Google Play Services that the Describe the scope of the planned backup function in more detail. According to them, tiles and watch faces should also be part of the backup. The app data and device settings will therefore also be part of the backup. The settings include, for example, WLAN passwords and authorizations (source: 9to5Google). Switching to a new smartwatch with Wear OS should be faster and easier than before.
It is already known that the backups are offered optionally and stored in the cloud at Google One will. Backups are only carried out if there is a WLAN connection and the smartwatch has battery reserves. Backups can be managed and initiated via the watch’s settings or via the accompanying smartphone.

When exactly Google will offer the simple backup for Wear OS smartwatches is still unclear. Google itself has no specific start date was given. There had previously been speculation that the backup feature could be launched alongside the Pixel Watch. But in the end nothing came of it.
