Updating the firmware of the Siri Remote (Apple TV)

Apple is now offering a firmware update for the Siri Remote to version 9M6772. The previous firmware was 9M6336. But beware: the version installed is different from the one displayed in the settings on the Apple TV. Why ? Good question.

Like updates for AirPods, Apple does not release information on firmware 9M6772 for the Siri Remote. It is therefore difficult to say if there are any particular novelties for the Apple TV remote control. We expect more fixes and improvements, rather than real news.

Installing the firmware update 9M6772 for the Siri Remote is probably like installing the AirPods, i.e. automatically. Why “probably”? Because Apple does not communicate on the subject and there is no option within tvOS to force the search for updates. So you have to wait and let the update download and install automatically.

As a reminder, the Siri Remote is the new remote control for the Apple TV 4K (2021). It has a different design from the old model, in particular by abandoning the touchpad on the upper part. By the way, those who do not have the Apple TV 4K (2021) but an older model can purchase the remote. Its price is 65 euros on the Apple Online Store.
