Uber is integrating Lime e-scooters and e-bikes into its app in other cities
No time right now?
Uber has now made Lime’s mobility offer – e-scooters and e-bikes – available in other German cities. Hamburg, DĂĽsseldorf and Stuttgart are new.
In May 2020, Uber got involved with Lime as part of a financing round and had given up the range of rental bikes and electric scooters it had acquired during the Jump takeover. In return, the taxi rival announced that it would integrate Lime’s e-scooters and e-bikes into its own app. Since the summer, Lime has been available in four German cities, Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne and Munich. Now three more are being added.

App: two-wheel option shows e-scooters and e-bikes
Lime e-scooters and e-bikes can now be booked in DĂĽsseldorf, Hamburg and Stuttgart (but only the e-scooters here) directly via the Uber app, as Uber reports. This means that users can choose whether they want to book a rental car, an e-scooter or an e-bike right on the Uber app’s start screen. A click on the two-wheeler option lists all the corresponding electric bikes or e-scooters in the vicinity – including the battery level.
If you want to start a trip with an e-bike or e-scooter, you have to scan the QR code on the vehicle using the smartphone app. Then the vehicle is unlocked and the journey can begin. Uber advises that a helmet should be worn while driving. In addition, the drivers must adhere to the road traffic regulations. When parking, it is important to ensure that nobody is hindered and that you do not violate the so-called parking conditions. Finally, you have to tap End Drive in the Uber app.
Uber: An important addition to public transport and taxis
For a trip with an e-scooter or e-bike, Uber charges one euro per trip to unlock. Afterwards it costs 20 or 25 cents per minute, depending on the city. Overall, the Lime vehicles are available via the Uber app in over 70 cities worldwide, including 28 European cities. For Christoph Weigler, General Manager DACH at Uber, the availability of e-scooters and e-bikes “represents an important addition to other forms of mobility such as local public transport, taxis and Uber”. The better the offers interlinked, the easier it would be for people to “leave their own car parked more often”.
