Mixed media: Twitter allows photos, videos, and GIFs in one tweet

In July 2022, Twitter first confirmed that the company was working on a multimedia tweeting feature. After an internal test phase lasting several weeks, the feature is now available to all users worldwide – both on iOS and on Android. Jolanta Baboulidis, Country Manager of Twitter Germany, said:

Our goal is to give people more choice and control over their Tweets on Twitter. The mixed media format allows the use of memes, GIFs, photos or videos in a tweet, giving people the opportunity to express their personality, opinions and interests and to engage creatively in the conversation beyond the 280 characters.

This is how multimedia tweets work

So far, only one medium could be selected per tweet – either a photo, a video or a GIF. Now users can add up to four different memes to their tweets.

To select the content you want to share, just click on the “media” or “gif” icon when exiting the tweet. According to Twitter, the arrangement of the various memes can be adjusted at any time before posting.
