Tineco Moda One – design and functionality
Let’s start with the smart hair dryer. Inside the box is the Tineco Moda One itself and three different attachments. I think it’s a bit of a shame that the Tineco Moda One doesn’t come with a carrying case or storage box, as is the case with the Dyson Supersonic, which we’ll also be looking at soon. A bag would have done.
First, let’s look at the attachments, which stand out positively just because of the fact that they are magnetic. So you don’t have to screw anything on and off, which reduces the risk of breaking something and also enables a quick change.
First, we have the diffuser. As the name suggests, this distributes the airflow to dry curly hair more evenly and gently and to prevent frizz.
The other two attachments look quite similar, but fulfill different functions. The thinner attachment is the blower or styling attachment. This achieves a more precise, more concentrated airflow, which allows the hair to be dried quickly and styled as well.
Attachment two is the smoothing nozzle. Due to the larger profile, the pleasure spreads a little further, resulting in a smoother, softer airflow. This makes it possible to gently dry the hair. One advantage is that the shine of the hair is better preserved here.
Tineco Moda One – Technical Features
Let’s take a closer look at the main unit of the Tineco Moda One. Since there are of course also technical features that go beyond blowing air. The hair dryer itself consists mainly of plastic and is of high quality.
At the front we have the openings in the middle to blow the air out. I have already mentioned that the accessories can be attached magnetically. The sensors around it are actually more exciting. Which allow the Tineco Moda One to do the thinking for you. The so-called iLOOP Smart Sensor can detect the distance, ambient humidity, hair moisture and ambient temperature and uses this to optimize the airflow and heat.
On you can see the reaction of the device quite well. In picture 1, the hair is still wet and the distance of the Tineco Moda One is greater. Correspondingly, the LED with a red color shows that we have a strong air flow with a higher temperature to dry the wet hair quickly. A few moments later, the sensor recognizes that not only is it a little closer, but that the hair is dry enough and the LED lights up blue. Here we have a gentler flow of air at a lower temperature, as this not only protects the hair, but especially the scalp, which is often where the biggest application error occurs for most users. The response time of the sensor is very fast and precise, as the iLOOP Smart Sensor evaluates the humidity 50 times per second.
At the back, the Tineco Moda One draws in the ambient air, which is also analyzed to identify the ambient values, because the moisture in the hair and the temperatures in general are considered relative to the environment. The hair dryer works very differently in dry winter than in summer with extreme humidity.
The air that is drawn in here is not only processed by a 1400 W motor, but also enriched with millions of negative ions by the built-in ion generator. This results in the hair not being charged which is a big problem even with my short hair, but also prevents split ends in general and is good for hair shine if that is important to you.
For manual operation, we have two buttons that can be used to turn auto mode on and off. Or you can simply switch to cooling mode, since you can of course also use a cool airflow like with most hair dryers. The third is a switch to turn on the Tineco Moda One. Incidentally, this is operated with a cable, which is okay in terms of length.
Tineco Moda One – app and smart features
Anyone who says that hair dryers are uninteresting is wrong, because they not only contain interesting technology: many are now also smart. Smart isn’t always smart, and just because a product has an app doesn’t mean it really makes sense. In this case, the app actually extends not only the functionality but also the flexibility since it can do more than just drying hair.
First of all, you have to set up the Tineco app here. Here you can find all smart Tineco devices and control them. Adding it is very simple. Scan QR code, select WiFi network, done. If, like me, you removed the QR code and can’t find it afterwards, you can also do it manually by connecting to the device via WiFi and returning to the app, which will do the rest for you. Once connected, you don’t have to do it again.
After setting it up, you can do many different things with the Tineco Moda One hair dryer. Three or four of them are self-explanatory. The more special modes such as the child mode and the pet mode are particularly interesting. Depending on the selection, the appropriate strength, temperature and ion enrichment are automatically adjusted here.
A conventional hair dryer, for example, is not suitable for pets, even if one assumes that they tolerate the same or more than we do. Here, for example, the air flow is adjusted and the temperature is reduced accordingly in order not to burn or injure the skin of the animals, where the sensors again have a say. The color dryer mode is also interesting. This can be used to dry ink and India ink, watercolors or oil paints. It doesn’t matter whether you paint your face, are an artist, paint the wall or want to breathe life into your valuable Warhammer 40k figures. As already mentioned, many factors play a role here. The strength of the airflow, the temperature, the ion enrichment.
Tineco Ziva One – design and functionality
The Tineco Moda One can be supplemented with the Tineco Ziva One. It doesn’t have the same number of features and isn’t quite as smart, but it’s no less interesting. Not only can you comb your hair with it, you can also smooth it and massage your scalp. Also interesting for men or short hairstyles. For example, my hair is short, but I can’t get far with a regular comb because it gets tangled and is generally as flexible as a hedgehog’s spines.
In the box you will find the Tineco Ziva One, a power supply, a brush and what the Tineco Moda One lacks: a bag.
The brush is there to clean the Tineco Ziva One and remove tangled hair, which is always handy when you have people with long hair in the house. The bag is just big enough for the Tineco Ziva One itself, which is why you unfortunately have to carry the power pack with you separately. But I think it’s on purpose since it’s a battery powered device. Although this “only” lasts up to 50 minutes, this is ideally around 10 to 20 applications, depending on the person. So you could do without a store even on a longer trip.
If you want to use the Tineco Ziva One with the power supply, you can do that. I find the MagSafe-like solution very positive, which is extremely important for such a device. This means that the cable can be magnetically attached to the device. If you trip over the cable or move too far away with the device, the cable comes off immediately. This is important because the Tineco Ziva One can reach temperatures of up to 200 °C, thus avoiding accidents.
However, this is not the only way to avoid accidents with the Tineco Ziva One. We still have a fuse on the side that prevents the device from being put into operation. This could happen accidentally when you are out and about in your pocket or with children. You have a single button to operate it. This allows you to switch between the different modes.
There are three modes, each with a temperature of 40 °C, 150 °C and 200 °C. The warm-up takes only 30 seconds, where the temperature is distributed over the heating teeth. So it’s not like the tips get 200° hot. Otherwise it would of course be dangerous.
In general, these temperatures sound very high, but depending on the hair type and application, for example if you want to straighten your hair, they are quite normal. 40°C for easy combing of dry and damp hair, 150°C for soft damaged hair and 200°C for thick, heavy hair. These heating teeth are also equipped with up to 10 million negative ions generated by an ion generator. So that the hair is not electrified and can be separated well, allowing the Tineco Ziva One to slide through every hair.
In terms of color, the Tineco Ziva One is bluish purple, where the color changes a little with the viewing angle and the incidence of light. For a while, this was also a big trend with smartphones from Huawei, for example, which everyone wanted at the time. It is mainly made of plastic, but is of high quality and robust. You can smell it a little the first time you use it. After that, the brush is odorless.
Tineco Moda One & Tineco Ziva One – price and availability
The Tineco Moda One is already available on platforms such as Amazon and costs 269 euros. This may not be a bargain, but it still costs around £130 less than the Dyson Supersonic. This is definitely worth the price due to other qualities, which I will get to soon, but if you are looking for a cheaper alternative that is just as good, you will certainly be happy with this.
The Tineco Ziva One is already available and costs 159 euros. There are actually few good comparable alternatives here, so a price assessment is a bit more difficult. I find the price understandable, at least in terms of quality and functionality from a technical point of view.
