Update from March 26, 2022: Now the time has come: Renault customers have to be patient before they can hope for electric cars from the French manufacturer again. Friday March 25th is a crucial date at Renault: it is for the time being the last day on which customers in Germany can still order an electric car. According to the French carmaker, sales contracts that are signed by the evening will still be fulfilled. Then it’s over for the successful Zoe and the Mégane E-Tech, which has just been launched – but it doesn’t stop with these two.
Renault puts on sale in Germany of all electric cars and the entire range of plug-in hybrids a. In addition to the Zoe and Mégane E-Tech, this also applies to the Twingo electric and the Transporter Master ZE (source: Edison Media). The earlier plug-in version of the Mégane and the Renault Captur with a partially electric drive will also no longer be offered for the time being.
Anyone who has hesitated so far or wants to make a last-minute decision should keep Friday free. Dealers have already been informed about this step in advance, so that ongoing sales talks should be concluded in good time, according to Renault.
It is unclear when the electric car Zoe will come back
A company spokesman confirmed Renault’s plans. However, it is still unclear how long the sales stop should last. “I assume we do not be able to order electric cars for at least a month, these will then become more expensive and will no longer be delivered this year, ”said a Renault dealer soberingly. With the environmental bonus at the previous level, it has probably been done for Renault customers.
The imminent end of the high subsidy is just one of the reasons to decide in favor of an e-car now:
There are many reasons for the order freeze: the industry has been busy for a long time with replenishment of chips, cable harnesses have recently become scarce as a result of the war in Ukraine. Challenges in logistics and strongly fluctuating raw material prices are said to have also contributed to the decision. According to Edison Media, several Renault plants will no longer be built.
Just a few weeks ago, Renault announced a batch of new electric models. VW and Skoda also reacted. The production stops there are to be lifted again soon.
