This Windows 10 update will destroy your printer
There is an update to Windows 10 that will destroy your printer. Read here how you can prevent or solve this.
Earlier there was already a flaw in the Windows Print Spooler, which allowed someone to take over your computer remotely. Now there is another problem with a security patch from Microsoft, which causes the connection to your printer to stop working. System administrators found out about this when they were suddenly unable to connect to printers.
Windows 10 update and your printer
It’s almost a repeat of an issue that occurred with another Windows 10 security update this spring, but now it appears that printers can no longer connect after installing the KB5004945 patch. This is particularly the case with Zebra printers, but other brands are also affected.
Microsoft has since acknowledged the problem. In a message to The Verge, Zebra also acknowledges the problem with her printers and Windows. Microsoft plans to fix the issue soon and is currently working on a patch. This newly updated patch should then fix the problem. If you can’t wait for that, there is already a quick solution.
Solution
Microsoft is obviously disappointed with this problem. It is not the first time that an update has caused problems. But they quickly acknowledged the problem and released a statement.
“We are aware of a printing issue caused by the Windows update “KB5004945” dated July 6, which affects multiple brands of printers.”
The company states that an immediate way to address the issue is to uninstall the Windows update “KB5004945” or to uninstall and reinstall the affected printer driver with administrator credentials.
