This website reveals the status of the federal government’s climate targets

In the context of climate change, the federal government often talks about its own climate goals. But where do we currently stand in terms of climate protection and the energy transition?

The past legislative periods have shown that Germany still has some catching up to do when it comes to climate protection. Globally, we will probably reach the mark of a warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2030 at the latest. However, every climate protection measure implemented counts above all for future generations.

But how is the current status compared to the ambitious goals of the federal government? After all, Germany should be climate-neutral by 2045. The Ariadne Transformation Tracker therefore illustrates the current status of the goals.

Federal government not on schedule with climate targets

The targets defined by the federal government form the target state. The tracker compares this with current data and defines whether we are experiencing a step backwards, are too slow or can record success. The result is then shown in colored circles.

A first look at the overview does not reveal a particularly good result. Only the measures in the infrastructural area and the expansion of renewable energies for industry are currently on course. On the other hand, there are steps backwards in the energy industry and in electrification.

There is a need to catch up, especially in industry and in the building sector

So there is still a lot to be done before Germany can operate in a climate-neutral manner. In industry and the building sector in particular, we are registering regression rather than progress. Nevertheless, one is still walking a tightrope.

Because if new laws are too strict, competitiveness in the industry suffers. In the private sphere, protests quickly erupt, as we saw recently in the discussion about the installation of new heating systems. Apparently, effective compromises are needed.
