This way you keep the nursery cool when it is warm outside
If you are already sleepless in your bed, sighing, tossing and sweating, then you can bet your child that your child also sleeps badly due to the warm weather. Still, you can do a few things to keep the nursery nice and cool. We have listed a few tips for you.

1. Portable air conditioner
Running an air conditioner on a freezing setting while your child is in bed is of course not an option. Handy: let the device turn on a few hours before going to sleep and turn it off shortly before going to bed. Or (if your child does not wake up at the slightest noise): place the air conditioner in the hallway and open the door of the room slightly. Get a thermometer so you can keep an eye on things. Good to know: the ideal temperature in a children’s room is 18 to 19 degrees.
2. Hang a white cloth on the outside of the bedroom window
It may not look very appetizing, but it does help to keep the heat out.
3. Sealed tight
Also important to keep the nursery cool: hang dark, thick curtains or purchase a roller blind or sunshade. Do not use this only when the sun is shining, but rather early in the morning. And keep the room nice and dark and windows and doors closed. Tightly sealed, so not even ajar. When the sun has disappeared behind the horizon, everything can clear again. Doesn’t all this work? Then try to hang damp cloths in front of the windows (on the outside). Wet it well a few times a day: it makes a huge difference.
4. Spray water on your flat roof
If you have a flat roof, you can sweat away completely: a burning sun on a black sheet of tar ensures that the space below rises to ‘sauna temperature’ early in the morning. Do you also suffer from this? Use the garden hose to spray a puddle of water on your roof. This keeps out the most intense heat.

5. Electrical appliances
We think it’s strong that your child has a flat screen, laptop and washing machine in his room, but it’s still good to see which devices exactly repel heat. For example, lamps can also heat up very quickly. Therefore, do not leave lamps on unnecessarily and use energy-efficient stuff: this emits the least heat. Do you want to make sure you turn off all devices at night? Then use a timer.
6. Insulate
This costs a bit and is not something you can adjust 1, 2, 3, but it is very important to keep heat out: insulate the nursery, and actually your entire house. Take double glazing and have your roof and walls tackled by a specialist. (And no, we don’t own shares in any company).
7. Freeze bottled water
A fan is already highly recommended on these scorching hot days, but there is a trick to use it even more efficiently. Fill a few bottles with water and toss them in the freezer. Is the water frozen? Then place them in front of the spinning fan. This has the effect of an air conditioner. Please note: do place the bottles in a container, because the water will naturally melt and then condensation will be released. And of course, in the children’s room, make sure that the fan and bottles cannot be grabbed by children’s hands.
