This smartphone has a lot to prove
Huawei has officially presented the P50 Pro. The new top smartphone from the Chinese captivates with an extravagant design and a camera that is second to none. With a promising feature, buyers go away empty-handed.
After a considerable delay, Huawei now has its new one Flagship smartphone for 2021 presents: the Huawei P50 Pro (source: Phandroid). A slightly smaller and technically stripped down brother completes the line-up for this year.
Huawei officially introduces the P50 and P50 Pro
The Huawei P50 Pro is the crown jewel of Huawei’s smartphone division – or at least what’s left of it. Despite the difficulties the manufacturer is struggling with due to US sanctions, the Huawei P50 Pro can boast an impressive data sheet:
- 6.6-inch OLED display (2,700 x 1,228 pixels, 120 Hz)
- Snapdragon 888 (4G) or Kirin 9000
- 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM
- 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB memory (expandable)
- 13 MP front camera (f / 2.4)
- Quadruple camera on the back: 50 MP strong main sensor with OIS and f / 1.8, 40 MP strong monochrome sensor with f / 1.6, 13 MP strong ultra wide angle with f / 2.2, 64 MP strong telephoto lens with OIS and f / 3.5
- 4,360 mAh battery
- 66 watts of wired charging, 50 watts of wireless charging
- IP68 protection
- Dual SIM
- Bluetooth 5.2
- HarmonyOS 2.0
In particular to the Quadruple camera quality One can be curious – after all, Huawei smartphones are known for their photo capabilities and regularly occupy the top places in the DxOMark ranking. The lack of 5G in the Snapdragon 888 is somewhat disappointing. However, this is due to the US sanctions and is not a surprise. It should also be interesting how HarmonyOS 2.0 runs on the mobile phone. After all, the Huawei P50 Pro is the first Huawei smartphone that goes straight to the start with the Android alternative.
In addition to the Pro, Huawei has also presented the standard version of the new smartphone series. The Huawei P50 makes some compromises and offers a slightly smaller display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz instead of 120 Hz. Instead of a quadruple camera, the regular model has a triple camera. Otherwise, the two P50 variants only differ in detail.

Are Huawei smartphones also coming to Europe?
According to Huawei, the P50 Pro and P50 will go on sale in China on August 12th. Several color variants are offered. The prices start at the equivalent of 780 euros. Whether and when the Huawei smartphones will also be offered outside of the People’s Republic is not yet known.
