This is what the flip-out Xiaomi would look like

Xiaomi itself has not released anything about it, but a well-known good has revealed it: images of a foldable Xiaomi that does not open inwards, but outwards. Special, because almost all foldable phones are actually facing inwards. Sadly, this phone isn’t coming, but at least we can see what we’re missing.

The tasty, Kuba Wojciechowski has put several pictures online of this mysterious foldable. It is quite different from the Mi Mix Fold and the Mix Fold 2, which have appeared. Of course you have to look through the skeleton, because what you see here includes the interior of the device.

The device can best be compared to the Huawei Mate X, because it is most similar in design. Even the rear camera island looks like it. In any case, Xiaomi clearly wanted to bet high on the cameras: the photos show no less than four cameras. In addition, the phone appears to be equipped with a Snapdragon 855 processor from 2019 with an X50 5G modem on the inside.

A cool device, of which we are not sure why it never came. On the other hand, we are talking about a foldable device, where the sturdiness usually causes problems. We’ve all seen the failure of Samsung’s first large foldable device and we can imagine that other phone makers couldn’t use such a dent in the image.

However, it is and remains a guess, as long as the Chinese Xiaomi itself does not make any statements about this. Anyway, it’s cool to see what it could have been. Could it mean there will never be an outward foldable phone from Xiaomi?
