Ikea and Sonos have introduced a new version of the Symfonisk table lamp with loudspeaker. The new model should offer a better sound than the first version and also individually adaptable designs.
In 2019 Ikea and Sonos presented the “loudest and smartest table lamp that Ikea has ever had in its range” as part of the Symfonisk series. Two years later, the Swedish furniture store announced a successor, which should be available from November.
Ikea’s newly launched Symfonisk table lamp with Sonos sound has a smaller footprint than the first generation. This makes the lamp easier to set up on the bedside table, where it is often used. In addition, Ikea offers a larger selection of designs so that users “can adapt the luminaire even better to their own furnishings,” says Stjepan Begic, product manager at Ikea.
The new lamp / speaker combination offers even more personalization options, as it is divided into two components – the lamp base with Wi-Fi speaker and the lampshade – which are sold individually. You can choose between a black or white version of the lamp base and four shades in different shapes, colors and made of fabric or glass, according to the manufacturer. With the new E26 / E27 socket, the luminaire can also be combined with a larger selection of light sources, they say.
Aside from the new design, which we saw a few months ago, the company said there was also work on the sound. Despite the smaller size, the manufacturer promises “an even wider and room-filling sound”. The new table lamp with Wi-Fi speaker has a new acoustic architecture that uses a special so-called waveguide. This is intended to “create a great sound experience from every angle,” explain Ikea and Sonos, who are responsible for the sound.
Like the WLAN picture frame from the Symfonsik series (test) and its predecessors, the new table lamp is controlled via the WLAN network and operated via the Sonos S2 app. According to the manufacturer, the lamp can be used as the sole sound source in a room or connected to other Sonos products. The lamp speaker also supports Airplay 2.
According to the manufacturer, the new “Symfonisk table lamp with WiFi speaker” will be available in Germany from November in Ikea furniture stores and in the company’s online shop. Ikea has not yet named a price, the combination of base and umbrella could be as expensive as the model that is still on offer, the one around the 180 euros * to book.
