This is how you put a widget of your choice on the lock screen

With iOS 16, Apple introduces the ability to place widgets on the lock screen to personalize your phone. It used to work on Android too, until Google removed the feature. The ‘Lockscreen Widgets’ app brings the feature back.

Widgets on the lock screen

Whenever Google or Apple announce new features for Android or iOS, there are always new features that the other operating system doesn’t have. So, with the arrival of iOS 16, we discussed six features that we also want to see on Android as soon as possible.

One of them is the widgets on the lock screen. You can permanently attach a widget to apps that you find interesting. This concerns things such as the agenda, reminders, the clock, sports data or information about battery usage. In the early years of Android, there was also support for widgets on the lock screen until the feature was removed in 2015 with the Lollipop 5.0 update.

Lock screen widgets

An app with the aptly named “Lockscreen widgets” brings back this sleight of hand. She lets you add any widget you would normally put on the home screen to the lock screen. In that sense, the function is more functional than iOS widgets, which only work with a select number of Apple apps.

Each of the widgets you add will have its own page on the lock screen and you can browse through all the widgets. Furthermore, Lockscreen Widgets also gives you the option to hide notifications. When a PIN code needs to be entered, the widget frame is automatically hidden on your phone. You can also adjust the color and transparency of the widget frame.

Lockscreen Widgets are currently available under ‘early access’ and you can buy them for 1.49 euros in the Google Play Store. The developer named Zachary Wander has made the code of the app open-source, that is, anyone can check their work through the developer platform GitHub. The app works without requiring root access, but some software pods or widgets may experience issues. You can easily request a refund in the Play Store.
