This feature in Android 14 has been on Samsung phones for a long time

It looks like Google is going to add a feature to Android 14 that other smartphones like those from OnePlus and Samsung have had for years.

Volume ringtone and notifications

In the early days of Android it was simply possible to set the volume of the ringtone and notifications separately. Logical because you don’t want the sound of your notifications to be as loud as that of your incoming calls. Most people have the volume of calls higher than that of notifications. Somehow Google chose to link the volume of the ringtone and notifications, which literally brought the volume to the same level. Other smartphone manufacturers, such as OnePlus and Samsung, have disconnected ringtone and notification volume for years.

Google may also do this (again) because the chance that Android 14 will come up with a solution for this seems increasingly likely. In the second developer preview (DP2) of Android 14, this change in the volume panel has already been implemented, although you had to set it manually. As you can see below, the volume of the ringtone can be adjusted separately from that of the notifications.

Now an employee has set the request to disconnect both as ‘solved’ in the Google Issue Tracker. Additionally, in the same thread, the Google employee confirmed that the requested feature will be available in a future build. When that is the case, the employee unfortunately did not report. The function may already be in the upcoming test version of Android 13 (Android 13 QPR3), or at least not until the launch of Android 14. In any case, manual setting in the test version of Android 14 is no longer necessary to get the new volume panel .

So just a little patience. Or do you have a phone where this has long been possible? Let us know in the comments.
