This 5.5-year-old Samsung phone gets another update
Samsung has rolled out a new update for its Galaxy S8 series. Not a security update, but a patch that should provide more stability with the GPS of the phones.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Update
Samsung has an update ready for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. The phones are now getting a new update 5.5 years after launch, the sole purpose of which is to make the phones’ GPS work more stable, including when navigating.
The update has the firmware version “G95*FXXUCDVG4” according to GalaxyClub and it takes up 420 MB. comes without a security update. The last security update for the phones is dated November 2021. GalaxyClub has discovered that similar improvements to the GPS are on the way for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S6.
The best update policy
Samsung is undisputedly the best Android manufacturer when it comes to the update policy of phones. Most models are supported for four years, but the flagships have recently been entitled to security updates for five years. Furthermore, only Google provides security patches for five years, but only with its Pixel 6 series.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 was a very popular flagship. It was unveiled in 2017 one day after the LG G6, which was then still an important opponent of the Galaxy S8. It immediately struck me that Samsung had succeeded better in limiting the screen edges with the new phone. And so even the “best smartphone ever from LG” was not enough to turn the tide for the brand. The Galaxy S8 series is also very popular with our editors.
