Things are not going so well with the Nintendo Switch
The pinnacle of the Nintendo Switch seems to be behind us. Or not?
Available on the market for years and an unparalleled success: the Switch. Can be found in many living rooms of households, also in the Netherlands. However, things are not going so well with the Nintendo Switch. This is due to chip shortages.
The Japanese company sold a million fewer units of the console in the last quarter compared to the same period in 2021. Chip shortages have been a problem for years. It is affecting the sales of the Xbox Series X, the PlayStation 5, but also the Nintendo Switch. 3.4 million units of the Switch were sold in the past quarter.
This means Nintendo has to process a 23 percent drop in sales. A spicy pill to swallow. Unfortunately, it does not appear that the problem of chip shortages will be solved in the short term. The problems started in 2020 with corona and have been a serious problem for the industry ever since.
The issue is therefore not so much a disappointing demand, but purely because of the disappointing availability of parts. If there’s no improvement, the Nintendo Switch’s peak seems to be behind us. But that might be a bit premature to say.
