Things are going uphill for the PS5: Sony shares great news of success
Gamers have now had more than two years to get themselves a PlayStation 5. At least in theory. Now, however, the console’s early days are coming to an end – and it’s only just getting started for the PS5.
Sony shows great success of the PS5
In a new quarterly report, Sony presents the sales figures for the PlayStation 5. Q3 2022 covers the months of October, November and December. In this time are 7.1 million PS5 consoles hiked over the real and virtual shop counter. A huge success for Sony: a year earlier there were only 3.9 million consoles.
Sony has almost doubled the sales figures in the Christmas business 2022 compared to the previous year. From the launch of the console to December 31, 2022, 32.1 million consoles were now brought to gamers. A key reason for the positive development is that the Console shortage is slowly coming to an end. Sony boss Jim Ryan promises even more improvements. In the future it should therefore be much easier to get a PS5 (Source: Sony).

God of War is Sony’s greatest pride
The current quarterly report also reveals that God of War Ragnarök is the most powerful cash cow on the PS5. In the first 10 weeks after release more than 11 million copies sold. Kratos’ Adventure is the most successful original production for the PlayStation ever. Sony expects Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to be a big hit this year.
Overall, however, software sales fell from 92.7 million games sold in the previous year to 86.6 million. Likewise, the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers. In Q3 2021, 48 million players still paid for the subscription service. In 2022 there were only 46.4 million. On the other hand, the monthly users in the Playstation Network have increased slightly.
